i had just gotten out of the shower today when i heard, “mommy, i have a decoration for you!”

“what is it?” i ask.

she comes walking into the bathroom carrying something.

“my hair!” she says as she presents me with a 4-inch lock of her lovely tresses.

as mother reminded me, i did the same thing when i was 4. the difference was that i held the scissors about a quarter of an inch from my scalp and cut my bangs off. at least b had the good sense to only cut a small bit from the right side of her head–it’s fairly easy to hide. i really hope that this is her first & last attempt at giving herself a new ‘do!
